Green Tea Mint Lemonade

When I asked Alex what we should say about this soothingly refreshing beverage, he responded that we should call it a “delicious summer treat.”

But for Al, everything is a delicious summer treat.  I might have gotten the same response if I’d inquired about beer or grilled salmon.  He loves all foods and beverages Summer.  Who doesn’t?

Me, for one.  I’m not categorically opposed to summer drinks, but they are second fiddle to the winter drinks of my heart: mulled cider, brewed chocolate with mint, hot lattes.

Predictably, this Green Tea Mint Lemonade is the exception.  The exceptional exception, excepting the exacting exercise of extracting juice from lemons (though if you have a juicer, you’re exempted).  Yes, squeezing is such a pain, but its worth it for this cooling beverage that’s not too sweet, and offers a uniquely refreshing blend of fresh seasonal flavors.

Ingredients (serves 6-8):
1/2 cup packed fresh mint
1 cup sugar
2 cups water, divided
1 cup fresh lemon juice
8 cups iced green tea (or other iced tea)

Instructions:
Combine mint leaves, sugar and 1 cup water in a small saucepan, then bring to a boil, stirring occasionally.  Turn off heat and let cool.  Once cool, remove mint leaves and combine with lemon juice.  In a large pitcher, combine iced tea and remaining 1 cup water, then pour the lemon mixture into it.  Serve chilled or over ice, with mint leaves for garnish.

New Macro Lens!

Posted by alannak on Dec 02 2007 | Other Biz

I got a new, beautiful Canon 60mm EF-S Macro Lens for my birthday! Here are some shots that I took with it:

A Cork.

Some chopped onion at Thanksgiving.
A plant in my house.
Sparky’s nose.
Garlic

Look forward to seeing some great new pictures with this baby! I’m going to be getting up close and personal with this food like never before.

Home for Thanksgiving…

Posted by alannak on Nov 19 2007 | Other Biz

We’re both heading home to our respective families to celebrate Thanksgiving, which sadly translates into no new posts for the next six days or so. Hope that everyone has a wonderful and delicious holiday!

P.S. Alex received an acceptance today from Mt. Sinai’s School of Medicine in NYC! Woot!

Not Here

Posted by alannak on Aug 16 2007 | Other Biz

Don’t worry, we haven’t taken up TV dinners — Alex and I have been out of town this week, and we will be gone next week as well. Keep checking back though, as we will post sporadically, and gear up for an intense cooking season this fall semester. Woot!

R.I.P. Grillz

Posted by alannak on Aug 05 2007 | Other Biz

We are in mourning. Last night, the grill was stolen. She was cooling off when she was hijacked from the courtyard of Alex’s apartment building. We found a pile of hot coals outside the building, where we presume the kidnappers must have loaded her into a car and driven away. She was our first grill, and a true beauty — an 18-inch charcoal Weber. We will miss her dearly, and though we plan to replace her in the coming weeks, she will never be forgotten. Thanks for the memories, grill.
