The Frugal Foodie Cookbook

by Alanna Kaufman and Alex Small

Available September 18, 2009 from Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Borders

The Frugal Foodie Cookbook offers deliciously gourmet recipes for anyone on a budget.   The recipes are simple enough to appeal to cooks with all skill levels, and they feature ingredients that are as fresh and tasty as they are affordable.  With its emphasis on achieving high-quality dishes and flavors on a low budget, the Frugal Foodie Cookbook includes soul-warming soups, crunchy and refreshing salads, satisfying main courses, perfect party appetizers, and mouth-watering treats.   It even includes a section with morning-brightening brunch items like cornmeal banana pecan pancakes and slow-cooked rosemary scrambled eggs.  Each recipe in the Frugal Foodie Cookbook is accompanied by a blurb containing noteworthy tips about creating the dish, as well as frugal ideas for leftovers and cooking anecdotes from our own experiences in the kitchen.  We write candidly and enthusiastically about the trials and joys of cooking on a budget.

Additionally, The Frugal Foodie Cookbook features an introductory section packed with general frugal cooking tips and ideas for stocking a frugal kitchen.  For each individual recipe, we’ve included the cost, number of servings, and cost per serving.  Many of the recipes serve large groups, and we hope that our readers will use the recipes they find to open their homes to families and friends.  Mostly, however, we hope that our readers have as much fun creating and enjoying these recipes as we have, and that the Frugal Foodie Cookbook helps to build a community of cooks who are interested in cooking and eating delicious food without high costs.

  1. Hi,
Jennifer, our part time librarian said that she ran into you at the conference in the city. we would love to have you give a talk when your book comes out and perhaps we could have some food samples. I think many people in our frugal an health conscious comunity would like to come. Is your grandmother Cynthia Walling? Anyway, please let me know when a good time would be for you to come in the spring.
